The Pilot Community Garden at Vista del Valle Park was the first City of El Paso Community Garden of its type. It was conveniently located adjacent to Vista del Valle Recreation Center and in an established community. It was shortly after finishing the Community Garden plans that the community enrolled in beginning their own vegetable garden. The goals for establishing a Community Garden were simple yet challenging in their own way.
Ultimately, the garden featured an enclosed yet visible area with completely ADA accessible walkways and garden plots. Each plot works by either drip irrigation or a manual watering option depending on the users needs. The Garden was also designed with a working table and pergola, benches, a tool shed and several donated boulders which today serve as seating areas at each entry.
Sites Southwest is the Landscape Architect of Record for this project. David A. Parra led the project design phases during his tenure there.
