The BRIO or Mesa Street Rapid Transit System delivered a clearly unique corridor running from Downtown and UTEP, through Sunland and terminating at I-10. Our job as landscape architects was to provide several conceptual landscapes in the unique street scenarios and intersections that make the Mesa Corridor.
Our goal as New Urbanist and Environmental Stewards however was to empower the pedestrian with shaded sidewalks and landscape focal points that worked in harmony with the newly designed BRIO shelters. After much coordination with the City of El Paso, Architects, Engineers, and the Artist; the BRIO provides El Paso with a more enjoyable and walkable urban setting.
Sites Southwest is the Landscape Architect of Record for this project. David A. Parra led the project design phases during his tenure there.
